Akitas are one of the large dog breed. Their bodies are sturdily built from plenty of food taking and exercising. There are several things that you need to pay attention and care for this dog. 

Akita Food & Diet

When you first bring your akita puppies home, it is recommended to continue to feed him with the food the breeder used to feed him. Avoid disturbing their regular diet. If your veterinarian suggests a better dog diet plan for your akita, then follow the instructions given. However, make sure it is a smooth transition of the dietary.

Akita Shedding

One of the Akita care is shedding care. The thick and short coats always need some brushing. Here are some recommend undercoat brushes for Akita. The coats are usually 2 layers which each of them shed once a year, especially in spring. Most people call this as blowing coat season. The shedding process may take up to several weeks. This is the time Akitas need more frequent brushing.

Akita shedding has becoming one of the challenges for the pet owner to take care of this dog breed. However, if the dog is well groomed, the shedding can be minimized. During the shedding period, a thick brush or larger shedding tool can be used to remove the excess hair of the dog quickly. If there is too much hair during this time, an alternative is to bath the dog every 2 weeks. Try to minimize the frequency of akita bathing as disproportionate may remove the oils of Akita’s coat.

Akita Weight Management

Akitas eat a lot to maintain its powerful and strong body. However, it should have proper exercise to keep its body fit, and control its weight gain. The common health issues that are associated with Akitas are thyroid and immune system disorders. It is recommended to provide them daily supplements to keep them away from these problems.

Akita Exercise

To properly control the weight of Akita, plenty of daily exercises are need for them. A simple quick walk on leash is the minimum to keep them fit. These exercises can be done within the fenced yard in your house. A fenced yard is important as this dog is quite aggressive to others or strangers even they are socialable animal within the family. Try to reduce the outdoor activities except during the exercises re conducted.
